Greenhouse Gases
Greenhouse gases: I favor a carbon tax to reduce greenhouse emissions. You could cut income taxes at the same time: a tax shift, not an overall increase. A straight carbon tax seems simpler than complex "cap and trade" schemes. Simplicity is important. We can't solve the planet's problems by ourselves--we need to get other countries to go along. And it would be easier to get other countries to pledge to impose a simple carbon tax than to install "cap and trade." Every government needs to raise money somehow, after all. Why not raise it by taxing the thing we don't want (CO2 production) and reducing the burden of other taxes in the process?
