Even if chloroquine and other drugs are not "cures"–let's assume they aren't–if they *help* they will 'flatten the curve' and keep people out of ICUs. We're told we need to do that in a matter of days. No time for rigorous large clinical trials (not that they shouldn't be done)

Here's a perfectly respectable Stanford researcher. His 3/13 paper — which criticizes both Trump and the CDC/FDA — takes chloroquine's potential seriously, along with that of other drugs. So why the media snark? (eg @NYTimes, @ABC). https://t.co/WUf5YAie3g

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me the rise in US virus deaths in this Johns Hopkins chart was about the same yesterday (55) as the day before–ie non-exponential. Please correct me if I have this wrong. (I'm not sure when they update.) Could be blip https://t.co/xYb7qWM7ka

Silly to bill this as an anti-chloroquine article. It's very informative. Says chloroquine alone won't solve the problem because it will "probably take a combination of drugs of some kind." But pretty clear Trump's right to think it has potential. https://t.co/zLiKBD4y9H

The rapidly growing number of cases reflect the tardy, now rapidly growing, number of tests, no? May or may not mean that actual cases are growing at that (admittedly scary) rate. https://t.co/ZUipBVPHqd

"With Minimal Evidence, NY Times calls a few docs to raise concerns about shortage of malaria drugs Trump says mightl work on COVID19." [There seems to be much more evidence chloroquine helps than that there is a looming shortage.] https://t.co/pPI3dGANST

This policy so obviously sensible what could be wrong? @NYTimes comes up with "worries among doctors and patients with lupus and other diseases who rely on the drugs" and are "rushing rushing to fill their prescriptions." But NYT comes up with 0 evidence anyone actually denied it https://t.co/zz3osX98tv

Did Fauci disagree with Trump on what to do? Is he really going to wait weeks for clinical trials? Doesn't seem so. Fauci: "AS WE'RE GETTING IT OUT THERE… WHILE WE ARE MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE … you're also collecting data." So what's dispute? Is Fauci anti-science too? https://t.co/dip3WyrqnT

.@ABC GETS IT WRONG: When Fauci said: “the answer is no” because “the evidence you’re talking about … is anecdotal evidence" he was answering a QUESTION ON CHLOROQUINE'S USE "AS A PROPHYLAXIS" not on "if the drug was promising" as a COVI19 treatment. https://t.co/zJYItHNEGv

.@NYTimes digs heels in on an untenable position. How does it 'defy science' to say we're in a crisis and we'll do trials but people don't have time to wait for frials? That's a policy call. https://t.co/eYQecBrp0c

I think this is a Trump advantage. Local news a lot less out-to-embarrass-Trump than national. (There must be an underlying commerical reason for this, though I'm not sure what is is–ie why doesn't it also apply at national level?) https://t.co/hf73XZgJKp

And do the editors rewrite/torque the lead paragraphs too? I don't know the answer. If they do & writers don't like it the cult of omerta at the @NYtimes is strong–why don't they figure out a way to bust the editors? Seems more likely they don't object or wrote it themselves. https://t.co/YqCRemnYL2
